Rowe, 34, stated earlier this year that he would be retiring from racing in the fall, even though he still has a contract with Ineos that runs through the conclusion of the 2025 season.
The rider, who was born in Cardiff, became a top super-domestique in cycling when he joined the then-Team Sky in 2012.
He participated in eight consecutive Tour de France events, supporting the victories of Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas, and Egan Bernal.
Speaking on the podcast he co-hosts with Thomas, Rowe stated that he was leaving Ineos for his first position as a “directeur sportif” (DS) for “no reason.”
I rode with Sky for 13 years before that, and I’ve had some amazing years at Ineos,” Rowe remarked.
Sometimes, in my opinion, change is good. I might return to Ineos in five years, who knows, but for now I’m just focused on doing my absolute best in that position.
Rowe will begin his new role with Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale in November, concentrating on rider recruiting and the cobbled races that will take place in the spring.
