In the most recent post, King Charles awarded 103-year-old Havildar Major Rajindar Singh Dhatt an MBE for his services to the South Asian community in the United Kingdom, honoring the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Along with a poignant statement, the palace posted a vintage photo of Havildar Major Rajindar Singh Dhatt with the late queen.
“The King invested 103-year-old Havildar Major Rajindar Singh Dhatt as an MBE for services to the South Asian Community in the UK at Windsor Castle today,” the palace stated.
According to the statement, Rajindar was born in pre-partition India in 1921 and was on the verge of graduating from school when the Second World War started, which led him to enlist in the British Army.
“Rajindar advanced through the ranks swiftly and was given the title of Havildar Major (Sergeant Major).”
