In the midst of ongoing uncertainty on Moscow’s military future in Syria following the overthrow of its friend, Bashar al-Assad, Russian navy vessels appear to have temporarily left their main port in Syria, according to satellite pictures examined by Verify.
Some ships have been resting offshore in the Mediterranean Sea since Sunday, according to photos shot by Maxar on December 10.
Jets can be seen plainly on the tarmac in additional images taken that same day, which depict ongoing action at Russia’s largest airfield in Syria, Hmeimim.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, stated Monday that Moscow will begin discussing Russia’s future military presence with the new leaders.
