A father and son who were fishing on Saturday discovered the animal, named Hvaldimir, floating in the southern Norwegian bay of Risavika, according to television .
Sebastian Strand, a marine researcher who has been following the whale for the past three years, stated that no significant exterior injuries were apparent, but he did not know what caused Hvladimir’s death.
“It’s just terrible,” Mr. Strand remarked. “As of Friday, he seemed to be in good health. Thus, our task is to investigate the possible cause of this incident.”
In addition, Hvaldimir was described as a “healthy young whale with no signs of illness” by Regina Crosby Haug of One Whale, an organization that spearheaded the fight to save him.
After his discovery, which experts say is known to have happened, there were claims that the animal was “a spy whale” trained for military purposes by the Russian navy.
Norwegian nonprofit organization According to Marine Mind, the whale is thought to have crossed into Norway from Russian seas, where it is likely that he was kept in captivity.
