The local governor’s office told Reuters that a submarine carrying Russian tourists sank off the coast of Hurghada, a resort town in Egypt’s Red Sea, on Thursday, killing six foreigners.
Along with crew members, the “Sindbad” submarine carried 45 Russian tourists, according to the Russian consulate in Hurghada. It stated that four persons had perished, but it made no mention of whether they were Russian.
“Most of those on board were rescued and taken to their hotels and hospitals in Hurghada,” the consulate stated, while a number of tourists’ whereabouts were remained unknown.
According to local media, 29 of the 45 passengers had been saved by rescue crews.
