One of the last additions to the home, the swimming pool was a favorite feature for Marina’s kids. “Everything was planned with such passion,” she tells the BBC World Service. However, the calm was short-lived.
Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Marina grabbed their kids and fled, while her husband went to fight. She captured what she believed to be her final view of their house before running away.
