Next summer, the United States will host the first-ever 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, a contentious competition. Major international football clubs faced off against each other in a much-anticipated battle on Thursday.
In Group D of the forthcoming FIFA Club World Cup, Chelsea will face Flamengo of Brazil and Esperance Sportive de Tunis. The English team will play Club Leon of Mexico to start the season.
Although it is now facing two legal challenges in Europe from the players’ union FIFPRO, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has championed this new 32-team competition, which is scheduled to take place in the United States next summer.
As the victors of the 2021 and 2023 Champions Leagues, respectively, Chelsea and Manchester City earned spots in the competition.
