Ryan Gosling and moviegoers are currently launching a fierce attack against the Academy for failing to nominate Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie for Barbie.
The reaction follows the announcement on Tuesday of the esteemed committee’s Oscar nominations, which featured America Ferrera and the 43-year-old actor in the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories, respectively.
But the Academy passed on the first Barbie and the youngest female director of a billion-dollar blockbuster.
“There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, internationally-celebrated film,” Ryan said in a statement to persons.
“With little more than a few soulless, skimpily clothed people, they defied all expectations, made history, made us laugh, and shattered our hearts. Along with the other incredibly worthy nominees, their work should be acknowledged,” he said in his statement.
Moreover, moviegoers vented their ire at the nominations on their X accounts.
“Ryan gosling getting nominated and not Margot Robbie is the exact point made in Barbie,” a person commented.
Another commenter wrote: “Margot Robbie’s subtle mannerism of experiencing what it is to be human is baffling, despite how wonderful America Ferrera is in Barbie and her now-iconic monologue being recognized.” The movie is her.
