In a show that is scheduled to premiere later this year, the 9 to 5 singer made the discovery.
And now, because of her recently found qualifications, the proprietors of Wrexham AFC, a club in North Wales, have hired the country singer.
Parton was contacted by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds to assist with the promotion of the upcoming Disney+ documentary series Welcome to Wrexham.
The show chronicles the ups and downs of the team, which was just promoted to the English Football League’s League One.
Posting the video on his YouTube page, Reynolds called Parton a “global treasure.”
“You may have seen my recent announcement about possibly having Welsh ancestry,” Parton said.
That tickled me to know. Even more delightful was the surprise I got from the Welsh Board of Tourism and Documentaries.
She continues, holding a Wrexham AFC scarf, saying, “They asked me to say a few words about Wales and sent me this beautiful scarf.”
Parton is ready to read a promotional blurb for the upcoming series when Reynolds and McElhenney interrupt her.
According to McElhenney, “We thought who better to help promote our docuseries about North Wales and their beloved football club when we found out that your family might be from Wales.”
Following the play of a brief series trailer, Parton continues, “That is just so nice, it makes me kind of homesick.”
