According to investigators, the celebrity, who has starred in over 100 movies, infuriated the infamous Bishnoi gang by murdering two antelopes over 20 years ago.
The gang is part of a religious group that values the animal highly.
Although Mr. Khan is unharmed, this is the most recent in a string of threats the actor has faced recently.
The two guys arrived early on Sunday morning on a motorcycle, according to Mumbai police, and fired five shots at Khan’s flat in the posh Bandra neighborhood before taking off.
Near a temple, Vicky Gupta, 24, and Sagar Kumar Palak, 21, were taken into custody.
