The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is considering closing a number of schools as a result of a declining student population and a budget shortfall.
“We need to have less schools than we already do. In a video that was made public on Saturday, SFUSD administrator Matt Wayne said, “We understand that this is hard to hear. “Nobody, including us, wants to consider the possibility of their school or any other school closing. However, by having fewer schools, we can better focus our resources and improve student services, teacher support, and programs.”
Wayne told the San Francisco Chronicle that it was still unclear which of the district’s 112 schools will close and how many would close.
San Francisco declares school closures due to enrollment and budget issues, saying, “We need fewer schools.”
