The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the top justice of the Lahore High Court have been directed by the Supreme Court to have deliberations on the matter, postponing the creation of election tribunals.
Additionally, it said that the petition will remain pending until the consultation is finished and granted a stay order to postpone the implementation of the LHC ruling until the next hearing. The electoral commission appealed a Lahore High Court order regarding the creation of election tribunals, and the court’s verdict came after that.
The Supreme Court’s ruling was made in response to the ECP’s appeal against the LHC’s recent ruling establishing eight election tribunals to consider election petitions pertaining to national and provincial assembly constituencies. The bench, consisting of five members, heard the case.
