In a significant move, four Supreme Court (SC) judges—among them senior puisne judge Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah—asked Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi on Friday to delay new appointments to the highest court until the Constitution (26th Amendment) Act, 2024 challenges were resolved.
“The scheduled meeting and the appointment of the eight new Judges to the SC by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) should be postponed until the challenge to the 26th Constitutional Amendment is decided one way or the other,” the top court judges wrote in a letter to the CJP.
In addition to Justice Shah, Justices Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Munib Akhtar, Ayesha A. Malik, and Athar Minallah also wrote the letter.
