On Thursday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) rendered a comprehensive ruling in response to a review petition challenging its interpretation of Article 63-A, a statute governing parliamentary behavior.
Details indicate that the court declared the decision made by the majority of justices on May 17, 2022, to be unlawful, and approved the review petition. In a recent order, the Supreme Court emphasized that the previous decision was invalid and unconstitutional, citing constitutional violations.
The court rejected the previous reading that favored the majority and instead decided to support the minority justices’ conclusion.
Arif Alvi, the former president, filed the reference about Article 63-A during a political crisis that included a motion of no confidence against the prime minister at the time.
