Bennett, Scheffler’s 27-year-old son, was born on May 8; the announcement was made externally on Monday.
Scheffler, a two-time winner of the Masters, has been practicing in Louisville, Kentucky’s Valhalla Golf Club in an effort to win a third major championship.
Since there had been no official announcement of his son’s birth, there had been uncertainty regarding his participation in the event, which gets underway on Thursday.
But now he’s prepared to leave.
Scheffler quipped on the Golf Channel, “If anybody has got any diaper advice, I could use it,” external
“I had very high hopes for what being a father would be like, and those hopes were much exceeded. Although that’s a very awesome feeling, I thought it would be pretty great.”
