Lahore is the second most polluted city in the world. On Wednesday, residents woke up to another day of bad air quality as a thick layer of fog covered most of the area.
Every winter, Pakistan, particularly Punjab, struggles with air pollution as dust, pollutants, and smoke from field fires are trapped in cold, heavy air.
The smog level did, however, slightly improve over the last several days, which led to the reopening of schools today in Lahore and Multan, the two cities most impacted, after they had been closed for more than a week due to dangerous pollution levels.
Outdoor sports will continue to be prohibited at all educational institutions, and students will be required to wear face masks.
In the province, the air quality index (AQI) was 455.
