Over the next few decades, experts predict that mosquito-borne outbreaks caused by global warming will expand to areas of northern Europe and other parts of the world.
For the first time in more than 20 years, the number of imported malaria cases in the UK last year exceeded 2,000, according to data issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
According to the report, after traveling overseas, there were 2,004 instances of malaria confirmed in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland in 2023 as opposed to 1,369 in 2022.
As per the UKHSA, the increase can be attributed to the recurrence of malaria in numerous countries and the growth in international travel after the removal of pandemic restrictions.
