The actress from Sex Education and the X-Files was hesitant to participate.
Anderson was so afraid, in fact, that she first declined the part of the interviewer in the upcoming movie Scoop.
“It was just too scary to play Emily Maitlis, because she’s still living, because she’s so formidable, because people know her so well,” she explains.
Ultimately, though, she chose to set aside her reservations and take the role.
“I thought I probably do have to do it because I’m so scared of it.”
Speaking at the Langham Hotel with her co-star Billie Piper, Anderson is just approximately 100 meters away from the corporation’s New Broadcasting House, where Newsnight is produced.
“I think she’s amazing,” Anderson says, laughingly mentioning Maitlis. “I’ve since met her and behaved with her as if I knew her.” Like we were the best of friends.”
