KARACHI: Citing security concerns, the commissioner of Karachi has issued a five-day prohibition on protests, sit-ins, rallies, and public meetings in Karachi under Section 144.
On Saturday, the Karachi commissioner’s office released a notification on the implementation of the auxiliary inspector general (AIG) Karachi’s recommendation to prohibit protests and the gathering of more than five people in any part of the city.
The prohibition would be in place from October 13 to October 17. According to the notification, the police chief of Karachi notified the authorities that “different factions are planning to hold protests, demonstrations, sit-ins, and rallies on the same day in the city, which may cause security issues, law and order situation, and inconvenience to the general public.”
