Qasim Roonjho, a senator from the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), has formally resigned from lawmaking.
The BNP-Mengal senator who defected, Roonjho, reportedly resigned and handed his resignation to the Senate secretary.
The veteran senator quit a day after he and another party lawmaker defied the party line and supported the constitutional amendments, which were later passed into law.
The parliamentary leader of the BNP-Mengal in the Senate was Qasim Roonjho. The 26th Amendment to the Constitution was approved by Roonjho and Senator Naseema Ehsan, who was also a member of the same party. Party leader Akhtar Mengal called on both lawmakers to vacate the Upper House of parliament.
