ISLAMABAD According to The News on Sunday, Senate members are set to get pay increases, with their compensation slated to match that granted for members of the National Assembly (MNAs).
The Senate finance committee is scheduled to meet next week, and it is anticipated that the body would authorize raising Senate members’ salary from the current Rs150,000 to Rs519,000.
The change follows the National Assembly’s Finance Committee’s approval of a plan to increase MNA pay to Rs519,000 per month in a rare show of cooperation between the opposition and treasury benches.
The speaker and deputy speaker’s salaries would not, however, be raised.
According to parliamentary sources, NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has signed the financing agreement.
