Seven students were expelled by Abbottabad University of Science and Technology’s vice-chancellor for demonstrating against a cultural musical night that was hosted on campus last week.
Students connected to the student organization Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) fiercely opposed the event, which was planned by the university administration. After negotiating with the students who were protesting, the university administration decided to postpone the musical night.
However, the seven students were later expelled in retaliation by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mujadad.
Abdul Razzaq Abbasi, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, and student organizations throughout the area have strongly condemned this decision. Abbasi threatened to hold the vice-chancellor accountable for any resulting law and order problems and warned of massive protests throughout the Abbottabad district if the expelled students were not reinstated.
