Shakib Al Hasan, the former captain of Bangladeshi cricket, has announced that he will step down from international cricket by March of the next year. This announcement coincides with significant legal troubles he is currently facing at home, including murder charges connected to his affiliation with Sheikh Hasina’s former regime.
Since Hasina’s government was overthrown by a student-led revolt, the 37-year-old cricket player has not been back to Bangladesh.
Shakib declared that he plans to make his last appearance for his country, Pakistan, at the Champions Trophy.
Shakib stated that he was keen to play in the next two-Test series against South Africa, despite his circumstances.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), to whom he has expressed this desire, is apparently working to make it easier for him to return for those games.
