Shan Masood, Pakistan’s captain, expressed his profound sadness after his team lost badly to England in the first Test match in Multan, but he also underlined the importance of regrouping and learning from the setback.
In retrospect, Masood acknowledged that the team misjudged the pitch and was unable to adapt to the conditions that changed during the course of the five days.
“We took the pitch too literally and hoped it would break earlier,” stated Masood. “We have to find a way to stay competitive and play according to conditions for the full five days.”
With the words, “We are struggling to take ten or twenty wickets, and our regular scorer, Rizwan, couldn’t find form in this match,” the captain also admitted the team’s inability to take enough wickets.
