Speaking candidly about her regrets surrounding her popular drama 90210, Shannen Doherty acknowledges that her marital problems during her last days on the set prevented her from acting professionally.
The 52-year-old invited costar Jason Priestley from the adolescent series to discuss the issue on her podcast, Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty.
“I was in a really horrible marriage, and there were things that were transpiring in that marriage that made it really hard for me to be on time for work,” she recalled.
observing, “And I know that that became a very big problem for the rest of you, as it should be.”
The actress disclosed that their marriage was suffering due to her ex-husband Ashley Hamilton’s purported addiction.
Meanwhile, in 1994, the showrunners fired Brenda Walsh, played by Shannen, because of persistent problems on the set.
Now that she had thought about her actions, the Memphis native wished she had spoken with the show’s producers about her illness.
“It wasn’t anybody’s responsibility by mine, but I sort of wish I would have been sat down and sort of looked at and said, ‘Listen, the end result is going to be this, you are going to get fired and none of us are willing to put up with it anymore,'” Shannen carried on.
“And while I acknowledge that you are dealing with a personal issue, that cannot extend to your work, and you really need to get your act together.”
