The cost of chicken meat has significantly increased in Lahore and other Punjabi cities, currently ranging from Rs610 to Rs630 per kilogram.
Both customers and store owners have been greatly influenced by this Monday rush.
The price of chicken has increased over the last five days: on June 18, it was Rs555 per kilogram, on June 21, it was Rs625; on June 22, it was somewhat different at Rs605. The growing prices are indicative of a larger trend of rising meat costs, which may be ascribed to increased feed costs as well as increased demand.
Prices for chicken had stayed below Rs 400 per kilogram throughout Eid, but the latest increase highlights a widening gap between supply and demand. Since the cost of mutton and beef has remained mostly constant, many consumers now prefer chicken, which is placing further pressure on supply networks.
Lahore shopkeepers have noticed a significant drop in sales as discussions with chicken farm agents have become more difficult due to price fluctuations. The retail environment has become more complex due to the price volatility of chicken meat, which has left many vendors struggling with lower profitability and unstable market conditions.
