Trailblazer Arooba Yousuf has always been. Now that she is one of the 28 female engineers who finished a ground-breaking solar project in Pakistan, she has made history as the first girl in her family to pursue engineering and enter the job.
Like many other residents of Karachi, Yousuf was motivated to discover a solution by the weight of high electrical expenses. She was inspired to become a solar installer in order to support the nation’s continuous attempts to resolve its energy issue.
“To save on electricity costs, my father would ask us to turn off extra lights and the air conditioner during peak hours,” the woman recalled. “I immediately learned about a program where female engineers were being trained as solar installers.”
