Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja discussed the current problems in Pakistan’s telecom industry, including a malfunction in a submarine cable and difficulties with internet speed, at a Senate session on Wednesday that was presided over by Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.
“By the end of October, a fault in one of the submarine cables will be fixed,” Khawaja stated.
She gave the Senate her word that efforts are being made to fix the problem and bring back complete connectivity.
Khawaja also discussed the issue of Pakistan’s poor internet speeds, blaming it on a number of variables such as the country’s current state of affairs and the delays in the import of telecom gear.
“LCs were closed, leading to project delays, particularly in the installation of new mobile sites,” she noted.
