KARACHI: In a case involving human trafficking and document tampering, rights activist Sarim Burney’s bail request was denied by the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday. Burney is accused of unlawfully assisting in the adoption of more than 25 children in the United States.
When Sarim Burney returned from the United States in June 2024, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested him on human trafficking charges after receiving a complaint from the US government.
Aamir Mansoor Qureshi, the defense attorney, contended during today’s hearing that although the case began in 2019, the FIA only filed the FIR in 2024.
Advocate Qureshi further argued that there was no forgery in the documents that the accused presented, and that the charges against Burney did not align with the legal provisions mentioned in the case.
