Jude Maboné, then sixteen, would frequently go to sleep at night fearing she wouldn’t wake up. Maboné told CNN that she had recently experienced her first heart attack and that she would have five more by the time she was eighteen. This experience led her to make a bucket list that included competing in pageants, which she said was inspired by the movie “Miss Congeniality.”
Every other week, Maboné was in the hospital, while her friends were having a great time in high school. Maboné had done everything correctly—she wasn’t related to anyone with a history of heart disease, she was eating healthily, controlling her stress, and exercising—but she was still an unusual candidate for heart disease, which she was eventually diagnosed with. Actually, she had experienced heart attacks every time she had gone for a run.
