Swoopes participated in a conversation on the “Gil’s Arena” podcast regarding the topic of whether Clark is now leading the WNBA in terms of dominance.
“If we had a number, if we would’ve said, when we’re talking about dominating with Caitlin Clark, what would the numbers [have to be]?” Gilbert Arenas, a three-time NBA All-Star, enquired.
“Oh my God, you said she wouldn’t be good,” others said, but Swoopes clarified that she hadn’t said such a thing. “I stated that neither Caitlin nor Angel, in my opinion, came into the league and quickly became dominant players.
Although Swoopes doesn’t think Clark is in control, this season’s figures contradict her opinion. This season, Clark holds the best scoring, rebound, and assist average in WNBA history at 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game.
In addition, Clark has been shattering records in the WNBA—and not just during his first season. In addition to setting the WNBA record with 19 assists in a single game, she has the most single-season assists (321) in league history. She is also the fastest player in history to reach 300 assists.
