BRUSSELS: The leaders of the European Union (EU), who met in Brussels on Monday, emphasized that they would retaliate if President Donald Trump imposed tariffs, warning that there would be no winners in a trade war with the US.
According to French President Emmanuel Macron, if Trump follows through on his pledge to impose a barrage of taxes on the bloc, the EU will have to demonstrate its strength.
“If we are attacked in terms of trade, Europe—as a true power—will have to stand up for itself,” Macron stated.
The prime minister of Britain, the president of NATO, and the leaders of the EU’s 27 member states were huddled in the Belgian capital to discuss how to strengthen Europe’s defenses against an aggressor.
