The Sindh government banned pillion riding on Saturday throughout the province in order to preserve law and order and preserve calm during the holy month of Muharram, according to a notification issued by the provincial home department.
The notification states that as the Islamic year begins in the first week of July, the restriction on pillion riding will take effect prior to Ashura on Muharram 9 and 10.
Women, children under the age of twelve, senior citizens, people with disabilities, journalists, uniformed members of law enforcement and private security services, and staff members of critical services are exempt from the restriction.
In accordance with Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the government, through the home department, has also prohibited the carrying and exhibition of weapons, as well as the holding of processions and Majalis in the province without a permit, until Ashura.
Sindhi authorities have been notified to conduct the following actions from Muharram 1 to 10:
Violation of “The Sindh Sound System (Regulation) Act 2015” by using loudspeakers;
speeches, violent and hateful images on walls, posters, banners, booklets, recordings, and films, etc.;
Any unauthorized individual on a roof during Muharram celebrations; Unauthorized parades, rallies, Majalis, Jalsa, or Tazia;
A group gathering of five or more people, except Muharram Processions, Rallies, Using drones or helicams; Carrying Arms or Ammunition, with the exception of Private Security Agencies and LEA Personnel on Duty; “Further, all permissions issued by Home Department, Sindh to carry weapon in relaxation of ban u/s 144 CrPC shall remain suspended during the above said period,” it further stated.
