Ghulam Nabi Memon, a grade 21 officer in Pakistan’s Police Service, has been appointed Inspector General of Police Sindh for the second time, with the federal government’s consent.
Memon, who is currently the Executive Director of State Life Insurance Corporation (SLIC), has been appointed as “Provincial Police Officer (PPO), Government of Sindh, under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, with immediate effect and until further orders,” according to a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Sunday.
Riffat Mukhtar, the current Sindh police chief, has been transferred and asked to report to the Establishment Division, according to an official announcement.
Ghulam Nabi Memon appointed Sindh IG for the second time.
In August of last year, the federal government replaced Memon with Additional IG Mukhtar as Sindh’s inspector general of police ahead of the February 8 general elections.
During his prior tenure, Memon implemented excellent policies that resulted in significant changes in the police force.
Memon, after taking over as PPO, made a number of decisions, the most important of which was to restructure the police department on modern lines, which included the establishment of a high-tech mechanism as well as the establishment of a specialised unit to control violence against women, particularly the Karo-Kari menace.
