Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt stated that he thinks Sir Keir can expedite regulatory bureaucracy to guarantee the government meets its 2030 electricity decarbonization target.
“Democracies, especially something as old as this one, have so many ways of saying no,” Mr. Schmidt said in an interview with Sir Keir at the International Investment Summit in London.
“I think the business community would prefer to have just one person who can say yes or no, and then move on,” the author said.
The delay and the cost of capital are killing you, and if you don’t correct this, you won’t meet your 2030 energy goal, which is commendable.
The pace at which choices are approved “is a really big challenge,” Sir Keir acknowledged.
It must be a priority for the entire government, not just the Treasury team, he stated. It will take place across the government.
