At a gathering in Scotland, where Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar will be present, the potential prime minister will restate his proposals for Great British Energy, which were initially declared before the party’s 2022 conference.
The party argues that by cutting expenses, the recently founded, publicly traded company, whose main office is north of the border, will support the country’s attempts to “turn the page” on the crisis brought on by growing living expenses.
However, the Conservatives argued that it was the “vanity project” of the former Labour leader, who is currently the shadow secretary for energy security and net zero.
In an effort to establish Scotland as “a world-leader in cutting edge technologies,” Sir Keir will lay out how the company will make its initial investments, which will include wind and solar projects, in the coming weeks. As the company expands, it will also consider hydrogen production, carbon capture and storage, and floating offshore wind.
The party announced that a windfall tax on oil and gas firms would be used to fund the pledge.
