The outgoing prime minister, who took office in 2007, acknowledged that it was a “tough thing to say,” but added that humans will inevitably make mistakes even in the case of “well-intentioned” and functional procedures.
Sir Tony also disclosed that he was “involved quite a lot” in the Middle East, where tensions between Israel, Lebanon, and Iran are at an all-time high, in an exclusive interview with the Politics with Sophy Ridge.
The former prime minister stated that while he would not address specific leaders, what matters most is that a sustainable ceasefire be reached and that a way to return to some sort of idea be found.
When it came to the Grenfell tragedy, the tainted blood scandal, and the Post Office scam, Sir Tony was asked if he believed that there had been a “failure of leadership” in the government.
He answered, “It’s hard to say, but no matter how good your system is, no matter how well-intentioned people are, and no matter how hard people work, mistakes will still happen.”
