The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said Wednesday that Saudi Arabia has put to death six Iranians who had been found guilty of narcotics trafficking.
Without mentioning the date of the executions, the Ministry of Interior stated in a statement released by the SPA that the Iranians were executed in Dammam, on the Gulf coast of the country, for “clandestinely introducing hashish” into Saudi Arabia.
Tehran’s foreign ministry responded by calling on the Saudi ambassador to voice opposition to Riyadh’s execution of six of its nationals for drug trafficking.
The ministry claimed in a statement that “Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Tehran was summoned” and that Tehran expressed its “strong protest” about Riyadh’s move, calling it “unacceptable” and a breach of “the rules and norms of international law.”
