The bodies have been discovered near the Tête Blanche mountain, where the cross-country skiers vanished on Saturday, according to police .
At 9:20 p.m. local time (8:20 p.m. UK time) on Sunday, a group of three rescue workers and a police officer discovered five of them dead.
The sixth person is still missing, according to the police, who added, “The search to find him is ongoing.”
The six cross-country skiers, five of whom are related, had left the Swiss Alpine resort of Zermatt on Saturday to embark on a ski tour.
Whether the deceased were related to one another remains unconfirmed.
Aged between 21 and 58, according to the police, the six individuals traveled along the Zermatt-Arolla path close to the Matterhorn summit, which separates Switzerland and Italy.
