The leader of the Liberal Democrats also made it clear that he did not think the austerity measures enforced by his party and the Conservatives were the root cause of the present NHS issue. He promises to “save” the NHS if his party wins on July 4.He argued that the “real, big problems” facing health care started under the Conservatives in 2015, when the coalition between David Cameron and Nick Clegg fell apart, in an interview with News deputy political editor Sam Coates.
However, he was questioned on whether the NHS’s restructuring, which occurred under his direction, was the cause of the current health crisis.
Sir Ed stated: “I think the Conservatives have been in power for last nine years and they failed.”
Nick Clegg’s Liberal Democrats formed a coalition with David Cameron’s Conservatives in the 2010 election, and the latter won a narrow majority in the 2015 election.
During that period, the coalition imposed austerity measures that reduced public spending in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, impacting several services, including the NHS.
