As a conflict with Ukraine over Russian gas supply intensifies, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has threatened to stop providing financial assistance for over 130,000 Ukrainian refugees.
A pipeline that supplied Russian natural gas to Central Europe for decades was cut off by Kyiv on January 1.
The primary entrance point was Slovakia, which now faces the loss of millions of euros in transit fees.
Last month, the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) reported that, of the 6,813,900 Ukrainian refugees worldwide, 130,530 were in Slovakia.
Fico called Kyiv’s action “sabotage” on his unexpected trip to Moscow in December to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
