At the age of 86, well-known comedian Tom Smothers, one half of the legendary comedy duo the Smothers Brothers, passed away.
Tom passed away on Boxing Day in Santa Rosa, California, following a valiant fight with cancer, according to the National Comedy Center, which is speaking on behalf of his family.
Dick Smothers, Tom’s brother and comedy collaborator, reportedly sent an emotional statement to Metro expressing his profound sadness at the death, saying, “Tom was not only the loving older brother that everyone would want in their life, he was a one-of-a-kind creative partner.”
The longer we were together, the more we loved and respected each other, just like in a healthy marriage. We were quite fortunate.”
Comedy pioneers The Smothers Brothers first appeared on the scene in 1959 and captivated audiences with their sharp humor.
