RAWALPINDI: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Monday that a Pakistan Army soldier was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in the North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The military’s propaganda wing said that the security forces successfully tracked down the terrorists and captured one of them, who was hurt.
But after fighting valiantly, Havildar Muhammad Zahir, 41, of District Mardan, accepted Shahadat during a fierce firefight.
The ISPR said that a sanitization effort was underway to get rid of any terrorists they may have discovered nearby.
The statement said, “The Security Forces of Pakistan are committed to eliminating the threat of terrorism, and such heroic sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve.”
The areas most afflicted by terrorism include Peshawar, Khyber, Bajaur, and Tank; places affected by terror include Dera Ismail Khan, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan, according to figures released by the Department of Interior and Tribal Affairs KP.
According to the Home and Tribal areas’ data, there were 1,050 terrorist occurrences in KP last year, of which 419 occurred in the organized districts and 631 in the combined districts.
There were 61 terrorist occurrences in Peshawar last year, with North Waziristan having the highest number at 201. Other locations for terrorist incidents were Khyber, South Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, and Tank.
According to the document, 470 security personnel and civilians died in KP alone during these terrorist incidents in the previous year. This included 106 security personnel in Peshawar, 4 security personnel killed in the Bajaur incident, 28 security personnel in Khyber, 36 in North Waziristan, and 29 security personnel in South Waziristan.
