Al Shabaab terrorists attacked President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s motorcade Tuesday when it was passing through the capital city of Mogadishu, according to the group.
Following the incident, Mohamud was safe, according to two senior government and military sources who spoke to Reuters. Zakariye Hussein, the presidential adviser, posted on X that Mohamud was “good and well on his way to the frontlines.”
The president’s convoy was struck, according to soldiers and locals who saw the incident. Four people were killed in the attack close to the presidential palace, according to a Reuters reporter on the scene.
