Prosecutors claim that between June and September 2022, the 31-year-old striker recorded four instances of unconsented sex with two of his companions.
Hwang expressed his “deeply sorry” feelings for creating “disappointment” during his initial court hearing in Seoul on Wednesday of this week.
Only a month ago, the former striker moved from Nottingham Forest in England to Alanyaspor in Turkey.
Last June, Hwang’s sister-in-law posted the videos to social media in an effort to blackmail him, which led to their discovery.
After Hwang sued her, she was given a three-year prison sentence in September for the blackmail.
However, prosecutors claimed that he had illegally taped the films, thus the allegations against him moved forward.
To avoid more harm, prosecutors declined to divulge information about the ladies in the films.
Hwang assured the Seoul court, “I will not do anything wrong in the future and I will do my best as a football player.”
“I truly apologize to the victims who have been impacted by my actions, and I am deeply sorry for the disappointment I have caused to all those who have cared and supported me,” he added.
