Proteas captain Laura Wolvaardt led the innings with a tough, undefeated 59 from 114 balls to reach the goal with 11.4 overs remaining as they chased 187 in sweltering conditions in Kimberley.
Before Nadine de Klerk’s exciting 48 not out from 28 balls sealed the match in spectacular fashion, England’s bowlers struggled but were left to regret dropping Wolvaardt on five and 27 as the opener held the innings together.
Although there was a lot of variable bounce and the surface was challenging, England’s batters were wasteful and were bowled for 186 in 38.4 overs.
After England fell to 106-7, number eight Charlie Dean saved the innings with 47 not out, adding 67 for the eighth wicket with Sophie Ecclestone.
