In exchange for providing troops to back its war against Ukraine, Russia has given North Korea air defense equipment and anti-air missiles, according to a senior South Korean official.
When asked what the North would benefit by sending an estimated 10,000 troops to Russia, South Korea’s national security adviser Shin Won-sik responded that Pyongyang has received military and economic technical help from Moscow.
“It is believed that North Korea has received anti-aircraft missiles and related equipment to bolster Pyongyang’s inadequate air defense system,” Shin stated in an interview with South Korean network SBS on Friday.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for the development and upgrading of “ultra-modern” weapons at a military show in the capital, Pyongyang, on Friday.
