Pedro Sanchez, the prime minister of Spain, has denounced recent attacks by Israeli forces on UN peacekeeping operations in Lebanon and urged the international community to stop arms supplies to Israel.
Two peacekeepers were hurt when Israeli forces opened fire on a UN observation post in southern Lebanon on Friday. In the midst of continuous confrontations with Hezbollah, this episode represents the third day in a row that Israeli fire at UN posts has been recorded.
After meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican, Sanchez made the following statement: “Let me at this point criticise and condemn the attacks that the Israeli armed forces are carrying out on the United Nations mission in Lebanon.” Sanchez was criticizing the acts of the Israeli military. Thankfully, the Spanish Defense reported that none of the Spanish soldiers taking part in the mission suffered any injuries.
