The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) franchise owner AlShaya Group intended to fire 4% of its 50,000 employees, according to multiple sources quoted by the Reuters news agency.
It was reported that the majority of the employment would be throughout the Starbucks franchise sector.
According to Kuwait-based AlShaya, “We have made the sad and extremely difficult decision to reduce the number of colleagues in our Starbucks MENA stores as a result of the consistently challenging trading conditions over the last six months.”
“We will ensure that we give our colleagues leaving the business, and their families, the support they need,” said the statement.
Due of the impact on royalty payments, the war-related boycotts have not only hurt AlShaya’s business but also Starbucks’.
