The musician, real name Min Yoon-gi, was charged in August when officers discovered he was intoxicated when they spotted him attempting to get up after he had fallen from the scooter close to his Seoul apartment.
According to local media sources citing police, his blood alcohol content was 0.227%, significantly higher than the legal limit of 0.08%.
The fine was assessed by a district court in Seoul last Friday.
In August, the rapper, who also had his license revoked, issued an apology, stating that he had “forgot] that you can’t use an electric scooter under the influence” and that he had driven home in Seoul “thinking it was a close distance.”.
I have no justification doing this; even though nobody was hurt and no property was damaged, I am fully accountable for it.
He had released a statement saying, “I apologise to those who have been hurt by my carelessness and wrongful behaviour, and I will ensure that this does not happen again in the future.”
In the days that followed, Suga received criticism, with some calling for his departure from BTS. South Korean K-pop idols are typically required to present a spotless image, however in this instance, a large number of Suga’s supporters also came out in support of him.
The 31-year-old was declared unfit for regular combat duty and is currently employed by the military as a social service agent.
